Genting Hotel, for the affluent, at Genting Highlands

How are you?

Every year, throngs of people will visit Genting Highlands from neighbouring countries. Genting hotel was the second hotel to be built in 1978, after Theme Park hotel in 1971, to contain two of the finest casinos which relocated from Theme Park hotel.

Genting Hotel

When we were there, we dined at one of the chinese restaurants which served sumptuous delicacies. It was resonably priced too. After dinner, we ventured into the Casino de Genting, the biggest casion at Genting. We saw row after row of gambling tables and slot machines. The place was packed to capacity with many avid gamblers.

The Maxim club is located at the highest floor of the hotel. On top of the building carries the symbol of "Genting, City of entertainment"

First World Hotel, the budget hotel at Genting Highlands

Hi everybody,

Bet very few of you knew that the second largest hotel in the world in terms of room count happens to be First World Hotel. First World Hotel
It has a staggering 6,118 rooms located in two towers, each standing 23 stories high.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. The lobby with a tropical rainforest theme was huge and the service was brisk. We did not wait too long to get our keys to our room although there were so many people queueing to check in.

The room is spacious with our queen size bed. You can get information of the room amenities, hotel facilities, photos and room info, check rates and availability and customer ratings with reviews at http://www.agoda.com/asia/malaysia/genting_highlands/first_world_hotel.html. A valuable resource.

For breakfast at First World Cafe, you have a choice of asian and western buffet. It is of pretty reasonable quality though not the best compared to other hotels.

Joining to the hotel at the base is the First World Plaza. First World Plaza

Within it spectacular entertainment awaits you. You will be spoilt with the wide array of food outlets ranging from restaurant to fastfood, game arcades, shops, cineplex, indoor theme park, Starworld casino. The picture on the right shows the indoor theme park. There is a stage that holds weekly performances for members of the public (e.g. magic and musical entertainment). This area is called Time Square similar to the name in New York. Thats why there is Statue of Liberty standing near by. I can't figure out why the Oscar statue is there? When we were there, the Genting Sky Venture was out of order. This simulator allows you to experience weightlessness in space. Since it cost a million dollars to travel to space, this will be a good experience for us.

Tips to make your Genting Highlands trip more enjoyable

  1. With StarCruise, you can choose to travel using different modes of transport to your destination and back. You can fly, sail, take a coach to your holiday destination and back with the same number of variations. e.g. For our Genting Highlands trip, we sailed on SuperStar Virgo to Port Klang followed by a coach to Genting Highlands. We took a coach from Genting Highlands back to Singapore.

  2. Alternative way Genting Skywayto get to the pinnacle of Genting Highlands is to ride the Genting Skyway, which is a cable car. It only cost RM5 to get a spectacular view of the highlands. The lower station is situated near Gohtong Jaya which brings you up to the higher station at Highlands hotel.

  3. If you are not into washing your cloths on vacation, then disposable underwear will come in useful. They can be easily gotten from pharmacies e.g. Watsons or Guardian.

  4. As the temperature at Genting is between 16-24 degrees, it is always smart to bring along a sweater and wind breaker as the wind can chill your bones. At the highlands, lots of clouds will float by and it can rain, an umbrella will also be good.

  5. When Genting Underpassvisibility becomes poor when it gets cloudy or when it turns dark, it will be better to use the sheltered walkways i.e. "hotel link", similar to the city link in Singapore, that connects all the hotels except Awana hotel.

  6. Food at Genting is dearer. Even at the food court, fast food chains, prices of cook food are at tourist prices. As our currency (Sing $) is bigger, you dont really feel the pinch.

  7. If you are there for gambling, remember to control your losses and take your winnings.

  8. Remember to enjoy the rides at the indoor and outdoor theme parks

  9. With the current global financial crisis, this is your golden opportunity to learn how to stretch every dollar on your travel. Find out the insider secrets of how you can get airfares at bargain basement prices by clicking here
